Struggling boutique bookseller Samantha Lenard hated Daniel Newman, the owner of a corporate Newman Books chain store that just moved in across the street. When they meet online, however, they begin an intense and anonymous Internet romance, oblivious of each other's true identity. Eventually Daniel learns that the enchanting woman he's involved with is actually his business rival. He must now struggle to reconcile his real-life dislike for her with the cyber love he's come to feel. Daniel avoids Samantha at first, but then makes a concerted effort to become friends with her, not yet revealing his online identify. He brings her flowers when she has a cold and accepts her criticism of his "It's not personal, it's business" philosophy. Eventually Sam closes down her bookstore and begins a career as a children's author. They get closer and closer until one day Daniel reveals his true identity to Sam. When she sees Daniel and realizes her online relationship was with him all along, she tells him "I wanted it to be you." They kiss - a bit awkwardly at first, but then with conviction.
