I headed to the Film Room for our Winter Coaches' Dinner before Parent Information Night and had every intention of grabbing my food quickly and avoiding any conversation. As Bailey and I nearly finished, Phil mustered up the courage to invite the new coach and her sister to eat in the open seats next to him. I had no idea who he was and what sport he coached, I'd later realize that he was a Fall sport coach taking advantage of a free dinner...days before clinching the State Title and an invitation to the National Meet with his cross country team. Over the next couple of months, we'd find all the reasons we could to communicate via email. He would announce a couple of my games at school and we'd find lots of time to finally talk during our Holiday Tournament. I took a big jump and sent him a friend request on Facebook, and he'd then ask me to join him for dinner at Doppio Zero on February 20th. We tried keeping it from my team, but they quickly noticed his attendance at all of our games. Our first spring together consisted of lots of Saint Francis sporting events and musicals, AAU basketball, a new hiring, campus ministry dinners, family birthdays, and lots of track meets. After spending the most amazing summer together, Phil proposed on August 20th in the very parking lot that we both realized we were meant to be together forever.
