Sami: I knew I wanted something serious. My older brother, Jake, encouraged me to go on LOX Club. He said, "In LA you're just a girl, but on LOX Club, you'll be a cute and successful Jewish girl, which makes you a great catch!" His words were ringing in my head that night so I downloaded the Jewish dating app. Evan: I had already been on LOX club for a year and half. I was getting over the dating scene when I was on my way to LA for Thanksgiving and I matched with Sami. My first thought was, “What do I need to do to get a girl like this to date me?”
Sami: I was home for Thanksgiving in Chicago visiting my family and that same day, I matched with this super cute, adventurous, plant-loving, handy guy who loves rom-coms. I didn't even pay attention to the fact that he lived in San Diego. Evan’s first message to Sami: "I was already thinking about moving to LA, now I guess I have to 😏" Sami’s reply: "I work from home baby boy, I can go anywhere!" Sami: After a lot of banter back and forth, and some very serious questions like, "Do you like food?" and "Do you work out?" I felt a little excited about Evan. He asked if we could go on a date Monday evening when I got home to LA from Chicago, but I suggested a FaceTime first. Evan: During the facetime I knew I locked it in, it’s a done deal. She definitely likes me... who wouldn't? She just seems awesome, really down to earth, and I'd love to get to know her more. At the end of the call, I tried to sweeten the deal and offered to pick her up from the airport and take her to dinner. Sami: I thought Evan seemed a little nerdy on the call but also, "Well, I need a ride home... and I will need dinner. It's a date!" I landed and rushed to the bathroom to change since my nephew spit up on me on the plane. I didn't feel too fresh.
Evan: At the airport, I was a little nervous because I had a bunch of furniture in my car and didn't want her to know I was going back to San Diego that same night. But thankfully she didn’t even notice. My first thought was she’s short… but super cute. Sami: He pulled up to the airport, and the second he got out to grab my bags, I knew. I know it's corny and some of us don't believe in love at first sight, but my heart felt sure instantly. Evan: The first date at Etta went perfectly. Seeing so many similarities in our morals, beliefs, and upbringing, I was just thinking, "Wow, she seems like a great catch." Sami: We ended up talking for five hours about everything: future, goals, hobbies, morals, family, how a perfect partnership would look... and I even asked him if he'd one day want to have my kids. I was joking, but not really.
Evan: After the first date, I wanted to play a little hard to get at first as I didn’t know if the feelings I had for her were reciprocated. But then Sami texted me first and playing “hard to get” went right out the window. I decided to plan a second date to give her the ultimate WOW factor. Sami: The second date, three weeks later, was better than I could have imagined. I could not sleep the night before so I basically stayed up all night in anticipation. He picked me up at noon and wined and dined me all day. It was so romantic. Everything felt so easy, and I felt right at home with him. Evan: After our second date after I walked in the door, saw my Mom and said, “I'm going to marry this girl”. Sami: The very next day, I met his parents at Shamshiri, a persian restaurant in LA. It sealed the deal. I knew they were my future parent-in-laws. Plus they had great taste in food! We knew we were moving quickly so we wanted to test out the waters of traveling together and booked flights to New York City. Evan is a Wildebeest of the streets. He always knew where we were going, what to do, how to get there and took me to some of the best restaurants. Despite it being the coldest week of the year, I felt warm and fuzzy.
Evan: The next trip was a 2 week trip in my van. I knew we truly were compatible after living in a 90 square foot box and ended up thriving. Plus, Sami made all the snacks and cooked every dinner. I knew she going to be my forever passenger princess but I didn't realize that I also would be getting my very own private chef too 😏. Sami: He always took care of me and knew how to make me happy, and he still always does. I started calling him my boyfriend right away. He would laugh and say it's not official yet.. But I knew it was. Evan: I signed a lease for my own place three days before we met. I was thinking, “I just got the ultimate bachelor pad!” Little did I know I would fall in love with Sami and ask her to move in only 4 months later.
