How We Met

Two Cultures, Two Cities, One Love

Our story began on New Year's Eve 2021, a night when plans were anything but certain due to a new wave of Covid. I was visiting D.C., and Buhari's travel plans had just been canceled. Fate played its hand, and despite having entirely different ideas for the evening, we both ended up at the same event. He noticed me first, sparking a conversation that quickly captured my full attention. He’s the extroverted type, while I tend to be more of an introvert. But that night, everything just clicked. Before we knew it, we had planned our first date. It was supposed to be a quick brunch before my flight back home. Instead, we found ourselves lost in conversation, which led to dinner and then dancing late into the night. And yes, I missed my flight, but it turned out to be the best decision. I ended up staying in D.C. a little while longer, and those days quickly became some of the most unforgettable moments of our lives. We spent nearly every day together, exploring the city, sharing stories, celebrating his 40th birthday, and enjoying the magic of our unexpected connection. When the time came to part, we both knew we couldn't return to life as it was before. This began our long distance love story, filled with creative ways to stay connected and see each other despite the miles between us. From weekend visits to meeting in cities around the world, we've transformed the challenges of distance into an adventure we wouldn’t trade for anything. Every step of our journey has been worth it to be here, ready to say I do!

For all the days along the way
