A Rom-Com Accidentally Lived

Get your tissues out

Our story begins the same way as many modern romances: the internet (but if you're one of our parents, we absolutely met at a bar. Please don't ask follow-up questions.). Hinge decided we were "most compatible," which felt bold, but honestly... they were right. We were both just wandering the dating wilderness without any aim... but then we started messaging. Immediately it felt different. Like "stay up til 4am talking even though Joe has a bike race in the morning" kind of different. Then came Sam's birthday party in River North. She somehow convinced Joe to attend, (before we'd even been on a proper date) and for some reason that will never fully be explained, Joe said yes. The night was pure chaos in the best way. Joe got along with Sam's friends, Sam was already mentally planning a picture together, and at one point she tripped on a curb and Joe caught her. That's right, we literally fell in love. At the end of the night, Joe walked Sam home and, with the confidence of a man who should absolutely not be that confident, asked, "Can I do something stupid?" Then he kissed her. We still went on our originally scheduled "first date" the next day because we are professionals. From that weekend forward, we basically refused to go a single day without seeing each other. A couple weeks later, at 11pm on a school night, Joe came over saying he had something important to ask. Sam assumed he was about to ask her to be his girlfriend. Instead, he confessed his love. Sam, shocked and overwhelmed, responded with the extremely romantic phrase, "Thanks for sharing." Somehow, rather than ending things, the next day's conversation set the stage for something solid and real. Sam said "I love you" one week later (on purpose!) and hasn't stopped since. About a year in, we moved in together, instantly proving that our compatability was just as absurdly high as Hinge had predicted. Life together was easy, fun, and balance. Like we were already a team. Then came the proposal. After months of Sam pestering (lovingly), Joe finally popped the question outside the Shedd Aquarium... in front of a trash can. Truly nothing says forever like a strategically placed waste receptacle. But he followed it up by surprising Sam with a room full of family (even the far away ones), ready to celebrate. So honestly? 10/10. Today, we are each other's favorite person to do everything and absolutely nothing with. We can make a grocery run feel like a real date, laugh during the worst moments, and some enjoy even the boring stuff together. We balance each other in ways neither of us expected and support each other through everything life throws at us. We're chaotic. We're silly. We're romantic. And we can't wait to keep doing all of this forever.
