David and Samantha met at UCLA during the Fall quarter of 2012. Sitting outside the Young Research Library, they discussed politics, philosophy, and their shared status as older students and misfits among the undergraduates. At the time, David enjoyed basking in the sun and reading Plato outdoors, while Samantha was always studying on the first floor of the research library. David and Samantha met up a few times on campus to hang out and talk as friends, but David was from the start infatuated with the small firebrand, and soon made his intentions clear. At the end of their first date, David went to the trunk of his car and presented Samantha with a ripe pomegranate. Though she was not yet sure if they would be a good match, her interest was certainly piqued. After going out dancing a few weeks later, a burgeoning romance was born.
