It is a classic tale of 21st century serendipity. We happened to be on match.com at the same time! Our first date was at Miga in Champaign sometime in May 2016, and it didn't take long to realize that all of that awful online dating had finally paid off.
November 23, 2020 we were in Southern, IL to celebrate Bob's 40th (thanks Covid, we were supposed to be in the Caribbean!). We had taken a few hikes, and Bob suggested one more stop before we headed home. We drove over a levee (a one way levee) and up a very windy narrow road. I was pretty concerned with getting up and down this hill before dark and I wasn't even thinking about a romantic scenario. We hiked down a fairly unexciting trail that included a very steep hill to walk down. I'm super clumsy, so I tried to get out of walking down the hill, but Bob insisted. I ended up scooting down the hill on my butt to find a walkway to this beautiful rocky overlook called Inspiration Point. Bob insisted that I climb on the rock with Honey (who is clumsy on a good day thanks to dementia and seizure meds), so again, I'm just focusing on the two of us not falling to our deaths. Then Bob asked me to marry him. I didn't actually realize it was the real proposal at first- then I realized I should start paying attention to one of the best days of my life. It was a perfect proposal in a beautiful place!
