We met on the worship team at church; Nathan played drums and guitar and I sang. Both of us remember a time in which we looked over at the other and saw something special. As our friendship began to develop, we became even more connected to one another. Stories about our pasts and our similar humor caused us to laugh and enjoy the times that we spent with each other. He made me laugh more than anyone had made me laugh before. What appealed to me most about him was his faith and compassion. When we began to lead high school students, the students and the leaders started to see the sparks fly between us. Not long after, our friendship became even stronger and hangouts turned into dates. Dates then turned into him asking me to start a journey with him...
We both had finished playing a worship set at church that night and wanted to do something right after. So being the white people we are, we chose to go to Starbucks! The events to follow were a spur of the moment, so Nathan had to act quickly. He told me he had to go to the bathroom, but little did I know he was going to call my dad for his approval. That night my dad wasn’t alone, because my step-mom, my brother Nick and his wife Alix were over with their little girl Hazel-Grace. After a little bit of questioning and messing around from my brother, he got the approval! Nathan chose to bring us to the park in which we concluded our first date. Being so into our conversation, I didn’t think much of this. After some more talking, he brought me to the shore by the lake where there were two rocks to sit at. He was about to bring us to the first rock when I asked him why he wasn’t going to the rock we sat at last time. Little did I know that I was setting this up just the way he wanted it. After a bit more talking, it started to get pretty buggy for me, so I stood up, but he held my hand and smiled at me. I smiled back and thought about why he wasn’t saying anything. Then I figured it out! I asked him, “It’s not like you’re going to propose to me, are you?” He continued to smile and I started to cry. He got the ring out of his pocket asked the question from where he was sitting on the rock, “Will you marry me?” I couldn’t get the words out right away, because I was crying with my hands to my face. But, I said, “YES!”
