While I would love to say that college-aged Sammie noticed the attractive “Throws Coach” from the University of Dubuque at a track meet and secretly crushed on him for the next 7 years, that would not be true. Our story is not that exciting! Jake and I officially met in October of 2022 when he liked a photo on my Hinge dating profile. I noticed a new notification and opened my Hinge App to see his friendly smile. I was drawn to him and his profile, however, was not sure about dating “an older guy”. I think I only texted Allie 3 or 4 times to ask if 32 was too old. Long story short after a week of messaging back and forth, Jake asked me to go out for a drink with him. We had our first date on a Friday night in late October at Dimensional Brewing Company 🍻 I thought the date went great! I told Jake my whole life story and filled any and every bit of silence with random stories from my past 😅. Jake stayed true to character and maybe said a word or two. He is truly a man of few words. Luckily, I did not scare him away with my endless talking and he texted me after the date saying he would like to see me again. I tell Jake and anyone who asks about our relationship, that I knew 15 minutes into our first date that he was a very special person, maybe even “the one”. Jake needed more than 15 minutes to decide that I may be "the one". Like all major decisions Jake makes in life, he required thorough research complete with a pros and cons list. Ok, just kidding about the pros and cons list! 🤣 Over the next few months we learned more about each other and our relationship continued to grow. Jake learned how to be a dog owner and is an excellent dog dad to Banks. I learned how to play golf, but I wouldn't say I've mastered the game yet. Jake learned how to water ski and navigate the Mississippi River. I learned Jake doesn't like needles, not even talking about them. Jake learned dinner can and should consist of more than just ground turkey and white rice. I learned a lot about collegiate throwing events and enjoy watching Jake and his athletes compete. I fell in love with Jake. Jake fell in love with me. We learned life is better spent with each other. We can't wait to officially start our life together! 🫶🏼
