Jacob and Sam met on Hinge, a dating app. Their first date was at a Mexican restaurant down the street from Sam's house called La Hacienda. Sam will never forget how big Jacob's smile was the first time he saw her. Sam could not stop giggling the entire date. After dinner, they went to Sam's house to watch a scary movie. Jacob leaned in for a kiss during the movie and Sam said, "not yet." Before the movie was over, they did eventually kiss. They wanted to hang out even longer, so they played pong in the basement and sat on the couch together watching Sam's roomie Liz decorate the house for Christmas. Once it was late enough Jacob left and spoke to Sam on the phone for the entire drive home. That night Jacob asked her to be his girlfriend.

Jacob and Sam got engaged on Labor Day. They were camping with Jacob's family. The whole family went on a trail ride with the horses. Once they were all at the halfway mark, they stopped to let the little ones walk around. Jacob held Sam's hand as she was walking on a log next to a pond. His mom was videotaping. Sam turned around and saw Jacob on one knee. Taylor, Sam's sister-in-law gasped. Immediately Sam said "yes" and jumped into Jacob's arms. Jacob's nieces were so excited. Zay Rose began planning the Wedding right away telling Sam that she would be the only one wearing a white dress. His nephew, Remmie did not seem to have an opinion, he just wanted to get back on the horses. When it was all over, they all happily rode back to camp. Jacob was on Lucky and Sam was on Ghost.
