We will be getting married in Porto, Portugal! Our ceremony and reception will be held at Pestana Palácio do Freixo. See full details on our "Event Info" tab
Guests should fly into Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO) in Porto, which is approximately 15–20-minute drive to our venue or to downtown Porto. There are currently direct flights to Porto from several U.S. cities, including Newark/New York (EWR/JFK), Boston (BOS), and Miami (MIA). Non-stop flights from USA to Porto (OPO) are primarily offered by the airlines TAP Air Portugal, United Airlines and Delta Airlines. Flights range from 6.5 to 8.5 hours depending on the departure city. We recommend booking flights 6–9 months before the wedding (Fall 2026 is ideal) for the best combination of pricing and availability.
Please ensure your passport is valid for at least SIX MONTHS beyond your travel dates (i.e., until at least November 2027). If your passport expires before Nov 2027, renew it as soon as possible. Standard U.S. passport processing takes 8-11 weeks, and expedited processing takes 5-7 weeks. If you need to renew, we recommend doing so at least 6 months before the wedding to avoid any issues. For official U.S. passport information, visit: https://travel.state.gov.
Portugal uses the Euro (€). Most restaurants, hotels, and shops accept major credit and debit cards. That said, we've found that American Express isn't as widely accepted as Visa or Mastercard, so we recommend bringing one of those cards as a backup. We also suggest keeping a small amount of cash on hand for taxis, local markets, cafés, and other smaller businesses that may not accept credit cards.
Uber, Bolt, and taxis are widely available throughout Porto and are generally the easiest way to get around. Both Uber and Bolt operate reliably in the city and from the airport. Public transportation is also available, but we recommend rideshare services or taxis for the most convenient travel to and from wedding events. Please keep in mind, some taxis are cash only.
Portuguese is the official language of Portugal, but English is widely spoken throughout Porto, especially in hotels, restaurants, shops, and tourist areas. You should have no trouble getting around and communicating during your stay.
Late May is one of the loveliest times of year in Porto. You can generally expect mild, sunny weather with daytime temperatures around 65–75°F and cooler evenings around 55–60°F. While Porto enjoys plenty of sunshine in May, it's still a coastal city, so an occasional light shower is possible. Our ceremony and cocktail hour will be outdoors, so we recommend bringing a light sweater or wrap for the evening. The reception will be held in a tent with both air conditioning and heat, ensuring everyone stays comfortable regardless of the forecast.
The dress code for our wedding is Black Tie Optional, meaning tuxedos or suits are appropriate for gentlemen, and floor-length gowns for ladies.
We truly adore your little ones, but our wedding ceremony and reception will be an adults-only celebration. We hope this gives parents a chance to relax, enjoy a night out, and celebrate with us. For guests traveling to Portugal with children, please reach out to David or Samantha. We've partnered with our wedding planning team to compile recommendations for trusted local childcare providers and would be happy to share those details with you.
