Colton and I met in June of 2015, when Colton started working at my company. I was asked to be his "mentor," and a fast friendship soon began. I taught him the important aspects of the job, like how to block off your Outlook Calendar at certain times so others wont bother you while you try to buy Adele tickets. Eventually, we both moved on to new places of work, but our friendship continued. We became the best of friends, basically inseparable. We were always together trying new restaurants, going to concerts, owning dance floors and karaoke bars. My friends would always say to me, "Colton is in love with you" or "You guys are gonna get married," though I didn't really believe it. Apparently his friends were saying the same things about me. Eventually, after one fateful Cubs game (the year they won the World Series so I think we have good luck on our sides), we both realized we liked each other as more than friends. Since becoming a couple we have traveled as much as possible. From Iceland to Cambodia, travel is our passion, and I feel supremely #blessed to have found my Adventure Buddy. We are all about food and wine, constantly in search of the best the world has to offer. Our search for World's Best Ribs is ever ongoing, however, La Barbeque in Austin, Texas is our current #1. Karaoke and dancing remain frequent activities, as well as trivia where we compete under the name Ninja and Unicorn. We aren't very good, but enjoy it because its an excuse to go out and drink beer on a week night.
Colton proposed after whisking me away to Barbados for a "surprise birthday trip." He is very much a go big or go home kind of person, which is one reason why I love him. Assuming we were driving somewhere for a fun weekend, I was incredibly surprised when we pulled up to the airport. And even more surprised when Colton whipped out our passports! With the music of Rhianna playing from his phone, he told me where we were headed over a glass of champagne at the airport bar (romance at its finest). Barbados did not disappoint; the amazing blue water, friendly people, delicious food and our incredible resort made for a perfect trip. On our first night we were enjoying some rum cocktails on the patio before our dinner reservation. Music was playing, and Colton asked me to dance; I thought this was normal because we are always dancing, but eventually after a few songs he got quiet and serious, and then I knew what was coming. Colton getting down on one knee and asking me to marry him is a moment I will never forget. It was perfect. Obviously, the rest of the weekend was amazing, enjoying amazing seafood and rum, basking in the sun, and admiring the ocean.
Our latest adventure has taken us to Australia, where Colton is earning his MBA, and I am acting as Sugar Mamma. Planning a wedding from across the world has presented its challenges, but nothing we can't handle as a team!
