How We Met

Sammy's Version: After graduating from TCU and moving to Dallas, I had the expectation of starting my career and learning how to "adult." I truly did not expect to meet my husband. My roommate at the time, Makenzie, started her new job and frequently came home from work saying "you have to meet my new coworker Boyd, he is awesome!" One day in September 2018 I came home from work and Boyd, Makenzie, and another coworker were playing cards. Makenzie introduced us; I went for the handshake, and Boyd went for the hug. Quite awkward as you can imagine. After that introduction, the three of us and our friend Michael all started hanging out. The four of us felt like a little family away from home for me. I enjoyed my time with Boyd and wanted to hang out more to get to know him better. At this time, I loved to roller blade and I asked Boyd, Makenzie, and Michael to get roller blades to go with me. Thankfully, Boyd was in, but Michael and Makenzie weren't down to try it out. April 2019, Boyd and I found ourselves roller blading around Dallas often. One of the most memorable nights was when we went roller blading from 8pm - 1am in the pouring rain throughout downtown Dallas. Boyd and I had many conversations about our college experience, family, friends, hobbies, and more. The more time Boyd and I spent together and getting to know each other, the more I wanted to be with him. Fast forward to May 20th, 2019 Boyd asked me on a date while we were roller blading, and it was a no brainer to say yes! Our first date was June 1st, 2019 and I just couldn't get enough of him! Fast forward almost two years, and here were are, he will soon be my husband!!! I couldn't be more excited.

How We Met

Boyd's Version

As many of you know, I went to college at Arkansas and Sammy went to TCU. Coincidentally, Arkansas and TCU played each other in football our senior year of college. Half of the TCU student body came up to Fayetteville, AR for the weekend. Sammy and I had mutual friends and were in the same group at various times throughout the weekend. I vividly remember introducing myself to Sammy after she had just got off a mechanical bull. For the record, she will deny this.. but it's true. I can't fault her for not remembering that quick interaction, but I certainly do. Almost exactly one year later, we both found ourselves working in Dallas. As fate would have it, I worked with her roommate, Makenzie. Makenzie raved about Sammy's character and was excited to introduce us. The encounter Sammy described is accurate - sort of. I went for the hug and Sammy took two steps back and stuck out her hand for a handshake. Along with a couple of others, we all became good friends and spent our free time together. Sammy asked all of us if we wanted to buy rollerblades to start rollerblading together on the Katy Trail - I was the only one who took her up on the offer, and I'm so thankful that I did. Sammy and I started gravitating toward one another and eventually started spending time with just the two of us (mostly rollerblading!). I loved getting to know Sammy and finally asked her on a date about two years ago - we've been going steady since. We've made so many memories together and it's truly been the greatest honor of my life to know her. I can't wait for her to be my wife!
