We grew up 30 miles apart in Vernonia, OR and St. Helens, OR but never met until we went to college. Both of us attended Oregon State University (Go Beavs!) for our undergrad, Wyatt majoring in Chemical Engineering and myself (Sam) in Bioengineering. In a coding class, winter term (January 2014) of freshman year, we were put in a group together by our professor, with a third member, for a class project. I distinctively remember Wyatt asking where I was from and I said, "you probably wouldn't know it." Wyatt said, "try me," so I told him I was from Vernonia, and he knew exactly where that was because he grew up close by in St. Helens. He was the first person I talked to at college that actually knew what and where Vernonia was. We would meet up several times a week to work on our coding project (which involved predicting the numbers in pi and y'all should know how much I love pi/pie) and more times than not our third group member never showed up. We bonded over being mad at our third group member and having to complete the entire project together. Working on our coding project evolved into walking to class together, then hanging out between classes... you get the picture. Wyatt's over-the-top love for dogs, love for learning, engineering nerdiness, and hobbies perfectly matched my own. The list goes on from there and how well we fit together never ceased to surprise me. We've been through a lot together and I know we both wouldn't have it any other way! - Sam
