During the early morning hours of August 30, 2013, Sam boarded what was then known as the 80 bus and beelined to the back once the bus driver pointed out a couple of young ladies who came on beforehand. Seconds later, Sam was sitting across from Tyisha, who was celebrating her birthday at the very same bar he left. As the bus traveled along K Street, through Union Station, and then along North Capitol to Brookland Metro Station, Sam and Ty engaged in conversation, learning a lot about each other, including the fact that they've been living down the street from each other for most of their lives. Once the bus reached Fort Totten Station, Ty and Sam went their separate ways. But not before Sam circled back and asked for Ty's number. Ty didn't give up her number but took down Sam's. And as they say, the rest is history.
