Our paths crossed in 2018. Like true stereotypical millennials, our relationship started online. And even though we were transitioning between jobs and wrapping up a four-year MDiv program, we thought we’d give each other a chance. Why not, right? Especially when the ‘love experts’ at eHarmony told us we were a 100% match! Our first date was at a coffee shop in Kenosha, and I think it’s fair to say that, after our first date, neither of us had any idea where this was going. A future as a pastor’s wife was intimidating. Equally intimidating was a future as a cat dad. But then came the second date. And then the third. Next thing you know, it was Call Day at the Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. But by that time, our initial reservations about each other had turned completely around. It’s not that we had any idea where we were going: we didn’t. But what we did know – seven months after that first date – was that we, by God’s grace, guidance, and blessing, were committed to making our relationship work – no matter the distance. Our relationship had grown to one rooted in Christ and built on his word. And then the pastoral assignment was issued! And our one-hour commute between Milwaukee, WI and Deerfield, IL was traded for an hour drive between Deerfield and Crown Point, IN. It was the spring of 2020. By then, the plans for the surprise engagement were well underway – and then came the Coronavirus. The question was popped on September 5 in true Jeske spectacular fashion – and everything went exactly according to plan (including saying “yes!”). Planning a big wedding in April, however, has been a tad interesting. God-willing, we’ll be seeing all of you in December. We can’t wait to get married. We’re both total nerds. We’re big on board games. We love sirloin steaks and Coopers Hawk wine. We like binge watching Netflix and playing with the cats. We love trips to Chicago. But our “compatibility” is ultimately one rooted in God’s Word. We can’t wait to celebrate our big day with you! Sam & Tracie
