Our story has no beginning. After professing our love romantically, after a decade of friendship, we came to realize that each “I love you” had always meant the same- you are my person. We spent years cradling each other throughout relationships, general life events, and cinema. CINEMA. A cornerstone of us. Who knew we were flirting our way through each flick, as, “just friends?” Well, apparently everyone. Looking back, our chemistry was always evident and palpable. The care we offered one another was deep, and genuine, and profound. Late nights discussing film, television and music were perhaps our first dates. Poking fun, engaging banter, expressing admiration. Shortly before the pandemic began we found ourselves at our favorite local theatre, watching Portrait of a Lady on Fire- a film that left us simultaneously breathless and full of life. We shared drinks afterward as news notifications came flooding in. Ashley kissed Sam on the cheek, understanding it might be the last friendly interaction for a while. We drifted home giddy, smiling, drunk on the soundtrack and whatever electrical bond we had experienced. Time passed, slowly. We remained close and comfortable through quarantine, communicating on screens and wondering if we’d see each other again. And then we did. We hiked, read, laughed and ate together in North Carolina as Sam prepared for the PCT. We shared confessions and fears. The reality of our love was somehow not punished by distance. Exchanging postcards and letters that summer, we solidified an understanding of personal growth while grounding our appreciation for the connection that was always there. Moving in together was an easy decision, as has each been since. We want you to dance. We want you to eat well, breathe in Chicago’s magic, and celebrate a story with no beginning. But most of all, we want you to feel loved. Community is not only a crutch, but a method to give. We hope our special day envelopes you with peace, chosen family, and sore cheeks.
