What is a Handfasting Ceremony?

Handfasting is an ancient unity ritual that has joined couples in marriage for centuries. This is where the phrase "tying the knot" comes from! The ceremony is very similar to a traditional wedding, but with an added element: after the vows, the couple's hands are bound together with a cord that symbolizes the eternal bond of love. We are choosing to be married in this way because we want to symbolize becoming a team that is bound together by our love and devotion. We will keep the handfasting cord in our home as a reminder of our commitment to each other.
