Sam and Rachel met in Kansas City in 2018 where a mutual friend (shoutout to Shiri Kboudi!) introduced them, and Rachel immediately had a crush. Anyone who knows Rachel, knows no one has ever described her as “shy” so naturally, she made the first move. Although, it took a few dates for Sam to realize Rachel wasn’t just interested in his cooking skills. Sam grew up in San Antonio, while Rachel grew up in Dallas, Texas. They both made their way up I-35 for college - Sam studied Engineering at The University of Kansas, and Rachel studied Marketing at Oklahoma State University. Rock Chalk and Go Pokes! Sam was an AEPi and Rachel was a Theta - where they both made lifelong friends. After graduating, they both moved to Kansas City for work, where they'd eventually meet in October of 2018. Sam and Rachel have always had a special connection, which neither of them realized before they started dating. Their families go way back - Sam's 105-year-old grandmother, Hana, has been best friends with Rachel's great-great aunt, Sylvia, for 60+ years! It took 3 years, and both coincidentally moving to Dallas, for Rachel to escape the friend zone. It seems the key to a man's (or at least Sam's) heart is food… and persistence. Sam (finally) agreed to go on a date with Rachel on February 13, 2021 when she asked him to make homemade pasta, to which he later said, "...That was a date?" 3+ years later, they love to travel, try out the Dallas restaurant scene, cook together, watch Wheel of Fortune, spend quality time with friends and family, and as of recent: play pickleball. On February 6, 2023, Sam surprised Rachel with an intimate proposal at home. When Rachel said yes to Sam, she knowingly signed up for a lifetime of dad jokes, quirky facts, and “New Girl” quotes. Sam and Rachel are so excited for their big day, and can't wait to spend the rest of their lives together!!
