We’d been chatting about getting another cat for some time, and I had my heart set on a Ginger, girl cat to join our American Shorthair boy cat Apollo. 

One Sunday afternoon, we made a trip to Brooklyn to check out an adoption event, and there we set our eyes on Penny, aka our little Persephone. 

Fast forward to the day we’re going to collect her from her foster home to bring her to our apartment. We bring her upstairs to our room, set her down and let her out of the carrier so she can acclimate and get a sense of her surroundings. After letting Penny free to explore, I was perched on the bed feeling happy to have our new Calico kitten home, and that was the moment when Mickey approached me, got down on one knee and presented me with his grandmother’s ring on Penny’s collar and asked me to marry him. Suffice to say, I had no clue, so much so that the first thing out my mouth was "Are you serious?!" after which was a resounding "Yes!"
