We hope you are healthy and happy as we move forward with optimism for what the future will hold post-pandemic. As many of you know, Sam and Max were married on June 26, 2020 in an intimate ceremony at the Mueller home. Despite the challenges the pandemic presented, Sam and Max agree their wedding was the best day of their lives with memories they will treasure for a lifetime. We had originally planned an anniversary reception; but as we have learned, even the best of plans can change. While they are excited to celebrate a year married to one another, they have decided to not hold an additional event. We are grateful for the support of all our family and friends and look forward to seeing you soon.
We hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy during these difficult times. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and in accordance with L.A. County restrictions, the wedding of Samantha Mueller to Maximiliano Sobrero will regrettably not take place at Padua Hills Theatre on June 26th as originally planned. We will instead have an intimate backyard ceremony with our immediate families on our original date. We are looking forward to celebrating our 1-year anniversary with all of you on Friday, June 25, 2021 at the original venue Padua Hills Theatre in Claremont, CA. We will continue to update you as more information becomes available. We appreciate all the support and loving messages we have received from so many of you these past few months. You can reach out to us at samandmaxsayido@gmail.com if you have any further questions.
They met outside the Yogurtland on the Upper West Side in NYC on a cool, summer night. Of course, Sam was running late. She saw Max as she was jumping out of a yellow cab and she immediately thought to herself that he was handsome. While Sam loaded up on multiple flavors and several toppings, Max thought to himself, "so much for an inexpensive first date." After their frozen yogurt, they walked to Central Park and sat on a bench just outside the entrance. They talked for hours -- about Max's brothers, Sam's firefighter parents, Max's journey to become a doctor, and Sam's first grade class. They bonded over being the eldest siblings, their roots in Southern California, their never-ending graduate coursework, how they longed to see the world, and how they wanted to help people in their professions. Before they knew it, it was way past Sam's school bedtime. Max made his way across Central Park to his Mt. Sinai med school housing on the Upper East Side while Sam walked home to her tiny bedroom near Columbia University, full on dessert and hopeful for what the future could hold for them.
In June of 2017, Sam & Max said farewell to New York City. While it was bittersweet to say goodbye to their colleagues, many of their closest friends, and the city that will always remain to them as the “best in the world," they were eager to be closer to home and back on the west (best) coast. Max was fortunate to be selected for his #1 choice residency program and is currently an emergency medicine resident physician at Highland Hospital in Oakland. Sam began a new role as a Director, Education Catalyst for Teach for America in San Francisco. In 2018, Sam joined the KIPP team as an Assistant Principal at an elementary school in West Oakland. Sam and Max bond about their experiences serving the Oakland community; Max’s elaborate stories from the ER often affirm Sam’s commitment to children in their most formative years of development. To make their house a home, they adopted Callie their feisty kitten, who rules over what is truly her apartment.
In June of 2018, Sam traveled with Max to his native country Argentina; they enjoyed beautiful landscapes in Jujuy, wine tasting in Mendoza, and the World Cup excitement in Buenos Aires. Max put Sam’s Spanish to the ultimate test while they stayed with his abuela (grandmother) near Rosario. Sam would definitely say the most spectacular part of the trip was when they visited Las Cataratas del Iguazu (not sure if it’s because of the biggest waterfalls in the world or the pretty ring Max gave her when he proposed!) On the first day at the falls, Max psyched Sam out by walking her to the waterfall's edge while covering her eyes... only to reveal the waterfall and nothing more. The next day, at the brink of dawn, he made Sam be first in line for the park, and then run full speed to get a "head start on pictures before it got crowded." What he really wanted was a private moment just for the two of them to take in all of the beauty of the world's largest waterfalls, the perfect place for him to ask for her hand in marriage. Sam hyperventilated, then cried, then laughed, then finally said yes. Max kept it all a secret, keeping the pretty opal ring neatly tucked away in a sock the entire trip!
