How We Met

Bears, Beets, Bumble Dates

Matt: Our journey began in November 2019 when fate (or Bumble) brought us together. I was one of Sam’s first matches, and little did we know, I’d also be her very first Bumble date. Sam: Our first date was at The Ship, a cozy little bar in Hamilton, where we bonded over drinks, our shared love for coffee, The Office, stand-up comedy, and stories about our friends and family. When it was time to say goodbye, I offered to drive Matt back to his place in Burlington. Matt: Now Sam’s car didn’t have Bluetooth or an aux cord and she wanted to hear some of the music I listened to, so I played music from my phone speaker, we must have listened to “Dance Monkey” at least five times. When we got to my place, we shared a romantically awkward car hug that somehow felt just right. Sam: From that moment on, our connection grew quickly. Just four days later, Matt invited me to join him for hot yoga (I knew he was a keeper because he still stuck around to chat after the class - despite smelling like I’d just run a marathon!) Then, as the world changed with COVID-19, we made the most of it by becoming quarantine partners (A.K.A. bubble buddies). Matt: Navigating the lockdowns was easier with Sam by my side. We spent our days in the kitchen trying out new recipes, enjoying board games, and connecting virtually with friends and family. Through it all, we found joy in the little things—like sharing coffee, endless conversations, and simply being together. Sam: In 2020, Matt bought his first home and we worked endlessly renovating it (with much help from Craig). Then, in the summer of 2023, we took an unforgettable trip to Italy—my first time in Europe! Matt: Sam couldn’t stop wondering if I’d pop the question in Italy, but I wanted to catch her completely off guard and decided to wait a little longer. After Italy, I made one of Sam’s dreams come true by adopting our puppy, Kona, in August 2023. Sam: And just a month later, on one of Kona’s first hikes, Matt surprised me with a heartfelt proposal, sealing our commitment to each other ...and catching me completely off guard! Matt: And so, here we are—continuing our love story, filled with laughter, adventures, and countless coffee dates. We’ve just purchased our first family home together and are ready to take on this new chapter of our lives. Sam: We’re beyond excited to celebrate our marriage with all of you as we begin this wild new adventure as husband and wife!
