We are so excited to have you at our wedding. This is a space where we will be sharing information related to our celebration. Details about the weekend will be added as we approach June 23.
Euclid's fifth postulate is very clear: parallel lines, even ones which are infinitesimally close, will never intersect. So it seemed with Sam and Kay, whose first 20+ years of life couldn’t have been much closer. Before they were even born, their parents were friends. Growing up only one town apart, Kay attended school with Sam’s cousins, and Sam attended school with Kay’s cousins. Kay even attended a middle school play in which Sam had a role, and unbeknownst at the time, that is when she first laid eyes on her dear future husband. The years of seemingly parallel lives went on, with Kay and Sam running the same high school cross country trails, skiing the same slopes, and attending the same local events together (but apart). An intersection may have seemed inevitable, but with Sam and Kay attending colleges on opposite sides of the country, their lives looked to be diverging in different directions. In transferring back to Vermont for her senior year though, they finally met at UVM. Kay was beautiful and fun, but Sam wasn’t single, and once he finally was, time was running out! As the summer of 2016 loomed, Kay was heading off for a 2-month European adventure, and Sam was moving to Boston for graduate school before she returned. On June 24th, they decided it was time to make a move: under the starry Vermont sky, they professed their mutual feelings of adoration and shared their first kiss. Now, exactly two years after their first kiss, this newly married couple will set off for their honeymoon together, forevermore thankful that God allowed these two lives to finally intersect in the most beautiful way possible.
Sam and Kay headed out for what was thought to be an evening of Christmas festivities with Sam’s research lab. As they walked through Kay’s town square, Sam had different plans in mind. He insisted on “picking up Boston Nutcracker tickets” at the historic Somerville Theater. This movie theater, which Kay passes everyday, is where Sam and Kay saw their first movie together. They were running late and it took some coaxing for Kay to agree to the detour. The ticket staff member didn’t skip a beat when asked for Will Call directions, “down the stairs, down the hall, and to the left” (Sam’s favorite part of the story). Instead of finding the Boston Ballet Will Call office, Kay and Sam entered a micro theater. The lights were dimmed, roses were scattered on the floor, and a homemade movie started on the big screen. They sat down, alone in the theater, as the night’s surprise was given away. Now they both knew what was coming. Sam had created a 30-minute video of clips from Kay’s friends and family. Each of them had answered the question: “Why do I love Kay?” Throughout the video Sam had interjected commentary, affirmations, and reasons he loves Kay. At the conclusion of the video, Sam called Kay up onto the theater stage, got down on one knee, and proposed!
