After spending 10 days in Iceland with the ring burning quite the hole in my pocket, I knew today was the day. We drove to the trailhead at Skogafoss Waterfall and were met with the most intense winds we’d experience on the trip. Right off the bat, Jenny was contemplating if we should still go on the day hike that I had planned; but never fear I used my superior persuasive skills to convince her that it would be a great hike. The first 20 minutes of the trail were straight uphill and flooded with tourists but as we continued to hike we had all of this beauty virtually to ourselves. We hiked for another couple of hours, at times almost blowing into the river due to the winds. We stopped for lunch at a waterfall about an hour further up the trail and sat behind a hill so that we were shielded from the wind. We sat there, hiding from the wind and had one of the best conversations we have ever had. We spent about two hours sitting at the top of this waterfall halfway between the ocean and a glacial pass, and it was two of the most precious hours spent on this trip. About 45 minutes later winds on the mountain became too much. We couldn’t go any further and I knew this had to be it. I came up with some excuse to step away to collect my thoughts and try and calm my nerves. Despite being with the girl of my dreams for almost 9 years, I was scared out of my mind and couldn’t stop my hands from shaking. I held the ring in my right hand as I walked back over to the mound of rocks that Jenny was sitting on. Now, I can’t even remember the first words I said to her, but I just remember starting a sentence then getting down on my right knee and asking her to marry me. It was the scariest, most exciting, and exhilarating question I’ve ever asked in my entire life and still to this day can’t believe she said yes. She is the most amazing, unselfish, and loving woman I’ve ever met, and can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with her.
