Maid of Honor
Daniela introduced Izzi and Sam. She met Izzi in law school, where they became friends in rehearsals for the law school play. She met Sam at Paul, Weiss, where they became friends during orientation week. Daniela was there for Izzi and Sam every step of the way through their relationship - from helping Izzi with nerves during their first dates to helping Sam plan a surprise proposal. When Sam and Izzi were 3 weeks into dating, Daniela made Izzi promise that she could give a speech at their wedding, which is how she got this role. She later abandoned Izzi and Sam to work in Washington, DC (a trait that she shares with the Best Man) but it was too late for Izzi to go back on her promise. Izzi and Sam apologize to the other people that they would have preferred.
Best Man
Sam and Lee met freshman year at Tulane, with Lee often crashing in the common room of Sam's floor before finally transferring in. They bonded cooking meals for their whole dorm and were roommates for the rest of college. A couple of years after college, Sam and Lee traveled to Cambodia and Thailand (along with Matt and Jake). They lived together again in New York during grad school, and even stayed roommates through the worst of the COVID pandemic, cooking and drinking what seemed like endless amounts of wine with Matt and Liv. Like the Maid of Honor, Lee abandoned Sam to move to Washington DC. It is unclear why they have these roles.
Bridesmaid
Daniela has been friends with Izzi since they were in grade 7 together at Madeleine D’Houet Junior High School (go Dolphins!). They have been friends through the highs and lows of middle school band, the early days of One Direction, full IB, Zayn leaving One Direction, living in different countries (and even continents), and the breaking up of One Direction.
Groomsman
Sam and Alex are cousins and great friends. Sam traumatized Alex at a young age by waking up in the middle of the night and vomiting all over himself, Alex, and the bed they were sleeping on. Alex has never felt safe in the same bed as anyone ever since. Sam and Alex were Groomsmen for their other cousin, Jake (see below).
Bridesmaid
Shelby became friends with Izzi in grade 10 English class at St. Mary’s High School (go Saints!). Their friendship was built on a strong foundation of Harry Potter, TV shows and repeat viewings of She’s the Man. Shelby is responsible for most of Izzi’s happiness as she introduced her to the TV shows Happy Endings, New Girl and Chuck in high school – Izzi continues to watch all of them on repeat to this day.
Groomsman
Sam and Jake are cousins and great friends. They went to camp together in the Berkshires, travelled in Israel, Vietnam, and Thailand together, and even formed a (doomed-from-the-start) company with Matt while watching the Red Sox get eliminated from the playoffs. Sam and Jake were Best Men for their other cousin, Alex (see above).
Bridesmaid
Hannah and Izzi became instant friends during engineering frosh week at Queen’s University (go Gaels!). Many of Izzi's fondest memories of undergrad involve either watching musicals or singing songs from musicals with Hannah. And after visiting each other many times over the past few years - from Kingston, to Boston, to Ottawa, to New York - many of Izzi's fondest memories post-undergrad also do.
Groomsman
Sam and Matt became friends in middle school, the week before Sam's Bar Mitzvah. Matt is still upset that he did not get invited to that party, but excited to be a part of this one. Matt is an avid traveler, and he and Sam have traveled across Europe and Southeast Asia together. Matt even joined Sam's bar trip from Colombia down through Argentina (and, if there had been a few more beers, Antarctica).
Bridesmaid
Liv has been a valuable friend to Izzi over the last three years. She has also been best friends with Sam since high school but that is less important. Izzi is extremely grateful that she got to know Liv through Sam and is very excited for her to visit Canada, as she has considered her to be an honorary Canadian since day 1. Sam is also glad Liv will be there, probably.
Groomsman
Sam and Keith became friends during law school, but unknowingly grew up just down the road from each other. They forged a bond over Westchester staples like Sal's and Walters, shows at the Capitol Theater, and getting out of the City for a hike. During law school, they lived only a few blocks apart in Hell's Kitchen, and now live just a few blocks away from each other in the Upper West Side. Sam is also the proud godfather to Keith's dog, Savannah.
Bridesmaid
Aria is Izzi’s soon-to-be sister-in-law (though she already considers her a sister). Izzi is extremely grateful that Aria met Izzi’s brother, Dan, in medical school and that she has the patience to not only date him, but marry him. After spending holidays together, sharing fondue dinners for 2, and having many discussions about The Mindy Project, Aria has won Izzi’s heart as well as Dan’s.
Groomsman
Dan, Izzi's brother, and Sam met over many zoom sessions while the world was still crawling out of COVID, as they lived on opposite coasts. Once the world opened up, Sam was thrilled to visit Vancouver and meet Dan and his fiancée, Aria, in summer 2022. He looks forward to being Dan’s brother and to the many visits to come.
Bridesmaid
Anna is Sam's sister, and Izzi is extremely excited to get to officially call her a sister as well. Anna made Izzi feel like family from the first time they met (which Izzi will always appreciate, as she was extremely nervous to meet Sam's relatives for the first time). After many car rides spent discussing and listening to Taylor Swift, The Jonas Brothers and Renée Rapp (much to Sam's dismay), Anna has also become an important friend.
