Akumal is a small beach town between Playa Del Carmen and Tulum. The closest airports are Tulum and Cancun. Akumal Bay Beach & Wellness Resort is about a 5 minute walk on the beach to Akumal proper.
Yes! The lovely Tammi is our travel coordinator. Email her for assistance with booking the room, transportation to and from the hotel and even flights! We have hired her to assist y’all and is complementary! truffini@nexioncanada.com
Yes! Mexico requires a valid passport with more than six months of validity. Example: if you’re flying June 4th 2025 then your passport cannot expire until December 5th 2025.
Food, drinks, 24/7 room service, paddle boards, snorkels, beach volleyball, yoga classes, painting classes Tuesdays and Thursdays (book upon arrival), nightly entertainment and more!
ABBWR is an all-inclusive resort meaning all food (including room service) and drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and many activities are included in your stay. While not required, we recommend bringing some tip money ($1s and $5) to give out as you see fit (e.g., for exceptional service). FOOD AND DRINK: We recommend getting your drinks as “doubles” as sometimes they otherwise can taste watered down (plus, it’s no extra charge to get “doubles” .. or even “triples”😊). There are also different liquors available that are not always on display- if you have something specific in mind just ask the bartenders (the lobby bar has more “top shelf” liquor available than the beach bars, but in our experience the bartenders will accommodate your request if it is something they have). The only alcohol you have to pay to upgrade is wine (if you want something other than the house wine) ABBRW has several restaurants and snack bars (Rodizio- Brazilian Steakhouse, Alux- Mexican, Lima- Peruvian, Kooben- Gourmet, the Snack Bar, Sushi bar- lunch only, and the Buffet). You do not need reservations for any of the restaurants. The quickest way to get a table is to go when they open (6pm). Otherwise, if you are not in a rush, you can put your name down with the hostess and grab a cocktail by the ocean while you wait for a table. The buffet has several food stations (omelet, pasta, pizza, etc.) where you can have your food made in front of you. There are several bars located throughout the property. The bartenders at the bar under the big palapa can prepare your morning coffee (latte, cappuccino, alternative milks, etc.). Let a waiter/waitress/hostess know if you have dietary restrictions and they will accommodate you! The resort has QR codes that you can scan for drink and food menus (just ask!) or they can provide you with a paper menu if you prefer (just ask!).

The resort also offers several yoga classes, spin classes and other daily activities (e.g., painting, tequila tasting, stand up paddleboard, tennis courts, live music, etc.). And, of course, make sure you check out the beautiful snorkeling seconds from your hotel room (you can rent snorkel equipment from the hotel but we suggest you bring your own)! Head to the sea grass in the early morning (before 730am) for the best chance to swim with turtles! We have heard of sting ray, schools of fish and beautiful coral reef spotted throughout the day. The snorkeling at this resort is seriously awesome!! The scuba and dive shop on site also offers one hour free of scuba so you can check this out if it is something that might be of interest! Check out the activities schedule here: https://akumalbayresort.com/directory/actividades.pdf There is also a spa on site through which you can book services for an extra charge (contact the front desk to see spa menu and booking options). There is a tours and excursions desk onsite (visit front desk to inquire) through which you can book some awesome activities: Akumal monkey sanctuary, whale shark swims, guided snorkels with sea turtles, visit to mayan ruins, etc.. The staff at ABBWR are wonderful and so willing to help you- if you need something all you have to do is ask and they will do what they can to help you!
This is a wedding on the beach and we want you to be comfortable! Harry is not wearing a suit and we don’t expect anyone else to either! Think collared linen shirts, khakis and flowy sundresses - it may be hot.

Yes! We recommended using our travel coordinator, Tammi, for the best rates. Email her at truffini@nexioncanada.com. We have hired her to assist y’all, she is complementary. We cannot wait to celebrate with you!
While Akumal is a safe town, anywhere in the world could be dangerous if you do not pay attention to your surroundings. Just be smart! There are security guards onsite at Akumal Bay Beach & Wellness Resort.
There are a LOT of people at the airport who will try to ask if you need help and/or sell you things (typically if you accept their help they expect a tip). We recommend ignoring everyone and walking out to the transportation area to locate your transportation company (you should receive instructions from the transportation company when you book- most will have uniforms or a sign with your name on it). We recommend you book transportation BEFORE your arrival as navigating the international airport can be slightly overwhelming the first time. Feel free to reach out to Tammi for transportation options at truffini@nexioncanada.com. Tammi did mention that transportation from Tulum is more expensive than Cancun, just something to keep in mind while booking flights. Alternatively, you can book your own transportation. We recommend a private transfer (so you don't have to wait for anyone else to be dropped off) such as one through USA Transfers: https://www.entertainment-plus.net/affiliate_1315/cancun-airport-transfers/akumal.
Reach out to Tammi, our travel coordinator, to help with the lowest rates. We have hired her to assist in all your travel needs, therefore she is complementary for our guests! truffini@nexioncanada.com
Tammi, our travel coordinator, has stayed at Akumal 17 times! I’m sure she would love to tell you her favorite rooms and why - truffini@nexioncanada.com. I found this from reviews online so take with a grain of salt. “Try to get building 3 or 4. The penthouses are a little hot. We like the garden suite. Those are the rooms on the ground floor. Low numbers in building 3 are the closest to activities and dining. Possibly a little more noisy as people walk by to get to their rooms. Normally not a problem.“ Building 3 and 4 should be fully renovated by June!
No shoes, no problem. We want to feel the sand beneath our toes so we don’t plan on wearing shoes! The ceremony and reception will take place on the beach! Wear whatever you feel most comfortable in!
We recommend utilizing our travel coordinator to book transportation! Just email truffini@nexioncanada.com for assistance. She can book flight, rooms, and transportation to and from the airport. Her services are complementary. While Akumal Bay has transportation, it is a little expensive in my opinion. Private transfers seem to be a little more affordable. We will add our favorite options below. We highly recommend having transportation pre-booked as the Taxis outside the airports are NOT official or verified in our experience. https://airportstaxitransfers.com/ - for 7people it’s $170 total, round trip, $24pp -for 10people it’s $180 total, round trip, $18pp https://www.mytransfers.com/en/ -up to 8 people it is $194, round trip, $24pp https://etransfers.com/ -up to 8 people it is $200 total, round trip, $25pp https://www.canadatransfers.com/ -for 2 people it is $150, round trip $75pp -for 4 people it is $160, round trip $40pp https://www.cancunairporttransportation.com/ -for 8 people it’s $225 total, round trip, $28pp https://taxirivieramaya.com/en -for 8 people it’s $211, round trip, $26pp https://happyshuttlecancun.com/ -for 6 people it’s $257, round trip, $43pp
For those without an international phone plan, we recommend downloading WhatsApp https://www.whatsapp.com/download/ which is a free messaging and video calling app. Some providers will offer $5/day for international use, just call your provider and ask about their international fees!
Arrival at Cancun or Tulum Airport/ Getting Through Customs: During the inbound flight, you will receive and need to fill out a customs form. We recommend bringing a pen onboard so you can fill this out in flight. Once you land, you will get off the plane and go to immigration where they will examine your passport and take your form. After passing through immigration, you collect your bags and proceed to the exit the airport.
Of course! You can walk there on the beach. If you walk along the beach to Lol-Ha restaurant, walk through the little alley on the immediate left of the restaurant. Continue along the parking area to your right and you will pass a spa and craft shop on your left. Continue and walk through the lobby of the hotel there and you will come out to the village of Akumal where there are a few shops and restaurants. If you want to continue along the road towards the highway - when you get to the highway, take the overpass across and continue up the road on the other side and you will get to the town where the locals live.
