Crested Butte is a mountain town 28 miles north of Gunnison in southwest Colorado. It’s known as the wildflower capital of the state, with a wildflower festival every year in mid-July. It’s a gorgeous setting for a special weekend with the people we love the most, and there’s so much to do. Hiking, rafting, mountain biking, ATVs, scenic drives– you name it! But of course, it’s a popular destination for summer vacations, so we recommend booking your trip as soon as you can. We put together a little information below to make the trip a little easier.

Travel Note

Getting there

We expect that a lot of our guests will be driving. If you want to fly to get a bit closer, there are three airport options: Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport (30 minutes away) Grand Junction Regional Airport (3 hrs away) Denver International Airport (4.5 hrs away) We’ve found decent bus options for all but the Grand Junction-Crested Butte route. Reach out if you want more information!

Where to Stay

Our wedding will be held at Sweet Reunion, a private venue outside of the town. We will organize a shuttle bus to take folks between the venue and the parking area at the entrance to the private road. The parking area is about a 5 minute drive from Crested Butte itself. Crested Butte doesn’t have many hotels, but has lots of options for vacation rentals. The hotels are 10 minutes up the road in Mt Crested Butte– the base of the ski mountain in the winter. In the summer, there is a free shuttle bus that runs between Mt Crested Butte and Crested Butte Town from 7am to midnight, stopping through the town every 20 minutes. The last bus leaves Crested Butte at 11:35 pm. Because so many of our guests will be making a small vacation out of the visit, we recommend that you organize a vacation home rental with as many friends/family as you wish! This will be the cheapest option, and likely to be the most convenient. We’ve done some research and VRBO seems to have better options, but there are some on Airbnb as well! And if you’re feeling adventurous… you could camp! Lake Irwin has reservations on a 6-month rolling basis to book through recreation.gov, with several reserved for day-of reservations, and the Oh Be Joyful has reservations on a 14-day rolling basis. You could also rent an RV, trailer, or van– we see options as cheap as $65/night for a teardrop trailer, $175/night for a large camper van, or $200/night for a traditional RV.
