We met in the spring of our freshman year at the University of Alabama, on a random Wednesday night at Rounders, the go-to freshman bar. Emma out for a girl's night, and Sam celebrating a friend's birthday. Emma spotted Sam above the crowd - hard to miss at 6'6" (or 6'8" as he told Emma that night) - and pointed him out to her friend Caroline (see Wedding Party). Caroline, world's best wing-woman, took it upon herself to facilitate an introduction, tapping Sam on the shoulder and saying "You're super tall, and I have a super tall friend". And the rest is history!
For the proposal, Sam decided he wanted to bring us back to Tuscaloosa, where it all began. But to avoid suspicion, that took a little creativity... and hijacking Emma's annual Alabama girls' weekend. It went mostly to plan, besides the Homecoming parade that blocked several major roads, and left Sam praying that he'd get there before Emma. Surrounded by nearly all of our closest friends and family, Sam got on one knee on the dock down by the Riverwalk on a beautiful college football Saturday. It was the most special day; that is, until our wedding day!
