The Wedding Website of Elyse Jares and Samuel Bliss Wiedeman
We recommend staying in Hanalei Bay or Princeville. Hanalei Bay has over 2-miles of a public beach and a town center with shops, bars, and a few restaurants. (Scroll down for more details). Princeville is just a short drive away with several resorts and hotels. We are staying at the Hanalei Bay Resort beginning Wed, May 1st (see below).

Flight

Flights to Kauai

For travel, we recommend flying directly to Oahu (Daniel K. Inouye International Airport) and taking a second flight from Oahu into Kauai (Lihue Airport). The other option is to make a stop in California and fly directly to Kauai. West Coasters, You have it easy. We recommend flying direct to Kauai We don't recommend swimming. It will probably take you too long and you will be too tired/sore to dance by the time you get there. Not to say that you aren't fit enough to do it, we totally believe you are, we just would rather you use that fitness to bust a move rather than swim. But we're not gonna tell you what to do, we'll just gently discourage it.

House Or Rental

Airbnb or VRBO in Hanalei or Princeville

Several of our family members will be staying in Hanalei Bay near the beachfront (see above map). We have outlined the areas to look for Airbnbs and VRBOs in the map above. Anything in the Blue area is something we recommend in Hanalei and is perfect for guests who want walkability to the beach and the bars in Hanalei. This is a very small, sleepy surf town vibe with farmers' markets, and old Hawaiian charm. If you would like to stay outside of the bay, we recommend anything in the Princeville area, marked in green. The houses are near the golf course, wedding venue, and a 10-minute drive to Hanalei. Princeville has more spacious homes at a good price and is a good option outside of Hanalei. It's important to note that shared rides like UBER are available but NOT reliable in Kauai

Hotel

Princeville Resorts

Princeville, HI

If you would prefer to stay in a resort, there are a number of options in the Princeville area near our venue. We have listed a few options below, including Hanalei Bay Resort where we are staying. We do not have a wedding block. Please note that many of the resorts in the Princeville area offer timeshare/vacation club memberships. This can lead to the resort not opening up rooms to the general public until closer to the travel date. Also, many rooms are available on Airbnb or VRBO (which is what we did!). If you do not see availability for the hotel you're interested in we strongly suggest giving them a call to see if they expect to open up more availability at a later date or browsing online.

Villa's available to reserve subject to availability. While no guarantees, we do expect this hotel to open up additional rooms that are currently restricted to vacation club members closer to our wedding date.

We've seen Costco Travel periodically running promotions for this hotel!

Rental Car

Driving

We recommend at least one rental car per travel party. To get the full experience of the Island, a rental car is a must. If you plan on going to the state parks, it's also a good idea to get a car with 4-wheel drive too! Shuttles from the airport can easily be arranged with Kauai Transportation to the Northside of the Island as well. To get from Lihue to Princeville or vice versa, it will take about an hour. Traffic has gotten worse over the years, especially in the area going through Kapaa (there is one “highway”: Kuhio Hwy - but it’s just a 2 lane rd that essentially goes up and down the east side of the island). Something to keep in mind if you plan to do any traveling through rush hour.

Travel Note

Bus from the airport to Hanalei/Princeville

The County of Kauai provides bus service on the island of Kauai from Kekaha to Hanalei. Two of the bus routes stop at Lihue Airport daily. The bus stops in the median in front of the Terminal.

Travel Note

Food for Airbnbs and VRBOs

There is a Costco in Lihue near the airport, so we suggest stocking up on the way up to Hanalei/Princeville. There are three smaller grocery stores in the Princeville and Hanalei area as well!
