Sam and AB’s story began at Stanford, where they met in a mutual friend’s dorm room during the fall of their senior year. They started hanging out—nothing serious— until their fifth year on campus, when they officially began dating for the first time. After graduation, life led them to LA together: AB pursuing his professional basketball career, and Sam applying to law school. But as they grew into their own paths, they eventually went their separate ways, each needing space to grow individually. Sam moved to DC for law school, and AB continued playing professional basketball. Years passed. They kept in touch now and then, crossing paths when life allowed. In 2019, Sam graduated from law school and moved to Newport Beach for work. Then came the pandemic. AB’s basketball season abruptly ended due to the shutdown. Sam and AB found themselves quarantining together. But as the world reopened, life once again sent them in different directions— Sam to San Diego for a clerkship and then to Los Angeles, AB to new countries across the world for different teams. And once again, they kept in touch, met up when they could, enjoyed the moments they had, but distance always seemed to be in the way of anything more. Finally, they decided that no amount of time, distance, or circumstance could prevent their way back to each other. In the summer of 2024, AB proposed to Sam in New York City, proving that the best love story isn't just about finding each other—it's about choosing each other, time and time again.
