Sam and John met on OKCupid in October 2014. During their first date, they slurped ramen and shared what brought them to the East Coast. Sam was automatically intrigued by John's background in Education Policy and his new role as a middle school, bilingual Special Education teacher. John was equally interested in her experience at boarding school and her work in education reform. It was slow going at first, their fates were finally sealed on their third date, nearly a year later at the Botanical Gardens Frida Khalo exhibit. Sam and John have been inseparable since. They have been lucky enough to travel the world together and are excited to travel to Europe for their honeymoon.

During winter break Sam and John traveled to sunny West Covina, California to visit loved ones. Martha, John's wise and clever sister, distracted Sam, allowing John to get away to purchase the engagement ring. During Sam and John's trip to Vegas, Sam decided it would be a great idea to eat her weight in crab legs at a questionable buffet. Not surprisingly Sam got food poisoning, throwing another wrench John's proposal plans. John had already asked Sam's mom, Terry for permission to marry her and was waiting for the most opportune moment to pop the question - according to BuzzFeed. John's friends and family already knew he would be proposing and were anxiously awaiting an update. John spent the night pouring his heart out an wrote an intimate proposal. Sam happily agreed to spend the rest their lives together.
