Sam and Katey were distant friends throughout high school, but everything changed during their first year of university. They were both youth leaders and part of the young adults group at their church when Abby Goertzen (who loves taking credit for this) suggested that Sam ask Katey out. At the time, Katey thought she and Sam were just friendly acquaintances who got along well, but Abby must have had a prophetic gift! Their first date was at Hexagon Board Game Café (highly recommend it for a great first date!), and it was the start of many fun and memorable outings. Then came the moment: Sam’s grand gesture. He surprised Katey at Olympic Plaza (R.I.P.) with a rose and asked her to be his girlfriend—a true Bachelor moment.
