Way back in our freshmen year at a Young Life summer camp, I first met Erica Hitchman. She was the girl all the guys had a crush on and as a dorky freshmen who was afraid of girls, she wasn't just out of my league, we were playing different games. We were never really friends as time went on but we were both well aware of each other and had many mutual friends. But it seemed as if we'd never get a chance. *Enter the Parents* Our parents and Erica got dinner one night to hear more about a Young Life trip to Israel Erica was excited about going on with my family. This is where the ever inappropriate Erik Hofmann makes a joke about arranging a marriage between their two single 23 year olds. Erica was mortified. She had been thinking about Sam and the idea because of our mutual friends telling us we would be good together. So then our parents decided that we owed it to ourselves to go on a date. Well I took my parents advice and asked out my camp crush from nearly a decade before. She said yes and surprising said yes to many more. Over the next few months, Erica quickly became my best friend. As we got to know each other better, it seemed as if our hopes and dreams and passions were aligning all too well with what we both envisioned for our lives. In a way that felt as if there was no explanation besides being God orchestrated, we fell in love and knew this was it. No more awkward first dates, no more messy break-ups, no more wondering who my wife was going to be or if I was going to have one at all. This was the girl I was going to call mine forever. A few months later I finally worked up the courage to ask Erica to marry me and she said yes! And now we get to celebrate that decision with you!
