Sam and Joie met through Asian Christian Fellowship at Carnegie Mellon University. Their friendship began with League of Legends, ultimate brownies @ The Underground, loooong discussions about faith, late-night cooking sessions, cold walks from the UC to Catman, and [daily] boba runs (in that order). Right at the auspicious time of the Covid lockdown, Sam asked Joie out, and they started dating.

After 2 years of long distance, during which there were several long drives and many (many, many) more hours spent on Discord, and then 2 more years of not long distance, Sam popped the question at a beautiful Japanese garden on the "Moon Bridge", because Sam believes that the steep Moon Bridge symbolizes the hardships of life, better to be spent together. He proposed with a ring and a jumbo Korilakkuma plushie. Joie said yes!
