“We’re Getting Married”

We met at a High School graduation in 22. Occasionally we would run into each other at the gym but never said a word to one another ; little did we know that a few months down the road we would go on our first date. We met again late in November and started to get to know each other. We had several dates and months before we became official.

As many know and perhaps not all, I’m a single mom to a Boy, his name is Leighton, he’s a ray of sunshine. Many have asked how Leighton and Adam get along and how this new marriage will impact his life. I became a single mom when Leighton was just a few months old, no idea what Life would look like but we thrived figuring it out. When I met Adam he was so involved from day one, if Leighton was okay, if he could bring us some diapers or clothes. If he brought me food he always made sure to bring Leighton food too; he never not took Leighton into consideration. Adam was part of so many different things, like Leighton learning how to crawl, Leighton walking for the first time, lees first words;he’s been a blessing. Leighton and Adam have such a wonderful relationship, Adam’s loved him like his own and taken on the role of a Dad. Our story is unique and out there but we wouldn’t change it for anything in the world. He chose to be a dad when he didn’t have to, and that is a beautiful thing to me.

At this point we had been dating a few months and we hadn’t talked too much about marriage or when we would consider getting married. What Adam did know was that my pre-teen self had dreams of getting engaged at a Jonas concert. The Jonas brothers were a big part of my childhood and I loved their music. In 23 they were coming to Dallas for their “Five albums, one night” tour. I had never been to a Jonas concert so it was a dream. A week before; Adam asked my parents for their blessing and obviously as you can tell they gave him the green light”. He paid attention to the song I would want to get proposed to, learnt all the songs on the set list for that night so he would know exactly which one to propose on. “Look me in the eyes” was the song he proposed on; one of my favorites. We had a magical night and a memorable one as well.
