For years, we somehow managed to exist in the same world without ever really crossing paths. We knew of each other, we knew some of the same people, and our names had surfaced in conversation more than once, but life, as it so often does, kept us on slightly different tracks. It took chance, timing and a corporate rugby dinner in November 2019 to finally bring us together. That evening was not planned as the beginning of anything significant. It was meant to be just another dinner, another event, another night of polite conversation. But, somewhere between the speeches and the small talk there was an opportunity for an invite out to dinner. Our first proper date at Cielo in Birmingham came not long afterwards. What started as an easy conversation quickly became something else entirely. There was laughter, stories, shared opinions and that rare, unmistakable feeling that you are completely at ease with someone you have only just met. By the end of the evening, it was already clear that this was not going to be a short story. We laughed all night, talked about everything and nothing, and entirely lost track of time. In fact, we were so busy enjoying ourselves that the staff eventually had to ask us to leave. (Some people still insist that Nick did most of the talking, but that remains a matter of friendly debate). From that evening on, everything felt easy and natural. What followed was not a dramatic whirlwind, but something better: a steady, joyful realisation that we had found our person. Our shared love of sport, travel, and making the most out of life quickly became the foundation of our time together. Whether planning trips, watching matches, walking, laughing or simply enjoying good food and good company, we discovered that we liked the same things, wanted the same things and, most importantly, laughed together a lot. Like all good relationships, ours has been built on friendship, mutual support, and an enduring sense of fun. We have shared adventures, navigated challenges and created a life that feels both exciting but wonderfully calm. Somewhere along the way, it became impossible to imagine life without the other in it. So here we are, incredibly happy, very grateful, and looking forward to the next chapter. We would be absolutely delighted if you would join us to celebrate our marriage and share in a day that means so much to us. Thank you for being part of our story – and for helping us celebrate the beginning of the rest of it. With love, Sally and Nick
We were in Alpe D’Huez doing what we love most - skiing, laughing and soaking up the mountain air, and we ended up at the glorious madness of La Folie Douche. With music in the background, snow all around us, incredible champagne and food, and the Alpes stretching endlessly into the distance, Nick took the plunge! He could not get down on one knee (due to his ski boots) but he had managed without me really noticing to sit next to me to take in the views and listen to the music. Just as the vocalists started to sing Bruno Mars “Marry You” Nick produced a bag of Haribo’s he had been carrying around all week, reached in and pulled out a jelly ring. He said a few perfect words about our life and our future and I instantly said yes. We laughed, hugged, got up on the tables, danced, drank champagne and celebrated with the crowds all afternoon. We knew this was the start of forever.
