Travel & Accommodations

The Wedding Website of Sally Dorman and Dan Berger
We are getting married on Peaks Island, which is a 15 minute ferry ride from downtown Portland. Find the ferry schedule here: https://www.cascobaylines.com/schedules/peaks-island-schedule/summer/. Guests have the option to stay in Portland or on Peaks Island. We recommend staying on Peaks for more of a quiet, quaint, coastal Maine experience (the island is beautiful but has only a few shops, restaurants, and a very limited grocery store) or staying in Portland if you want a livelier scene of shops, restaurants and bars. Unfortunately, rooms at The Inn on Peaks Island are limited but there is a limited number of Airbnb’s on Peaks Island (cottages go fast so book early!). If you stay in Portland, we recommend staying in an airbnb, hotel or hostel within walking distance to the ferry terminal (56 COMMERCIAL ST, PORTLAND, ME 04101).

Travel Note

FERRY

Peaks Island is a 15 minute ferry ride from downtown Portland. Casco Bay Lines makes regular trips throughout the day, rain or shine, year-round. Tickets can be purchased at the at the ferry terminal at the time of departure and cost $8 round-trip for adults and $4 for kids and seniors. You can take your car on the ferry to Peaks for $60-80, though cars typically aren't needed on the island and only a limited number of cars can come over on each ferry so you might have to wait for a few ferries before getting on. Golf carts and bikes can be rented to get around the island if needed, and it is fairly walkable otherwise. The Inn for the ceremony is a 2-minute walk from where the ferry drops you off, so no need to worry about transportation once you reach the island. The welcome party venue is a 2-minute walk past the wedding venue. If you are not able to make the walk please let us know, and we can arrange a golf cart to bring you from the ferry drop-off. The Casco Bay Lines terminal is located at 56 COMMERCIAL ST, PORTLAND, ME 04101, USA in downtown Portland. Please note that it can be difficult to get a parking spot at the terminal so we recommend that you walk or take a ride service to the ferry terminal or allow plenty of time for parking in one of the other parking lots in the area (there is a map of nearby parking lots on the Casco Bay Lines website!).

Flight

AIRPORT

The Portland International Jetport is about 20 minutes from downtown Portland. Although it hosts most major airlines, it will be the peak of the summer season and a limited number of flights per day will fill quickly. We recommend booking early. Other possibilities, farther away but with more daily flights ,include Manchester NH, and Boston, MA, with Boston having better public transportation to Portland. Rental Car

RENTING A CAR

Downtown Portland is small and walkable (only 3 miles long and 3/4 of a mile wide) and a quick taxi ride from the Portland airport so you may not need to rent a car unless you plan on leaving the city and exploring other areas of Maine. The ferry to Peaks is located in downtown Portland so you can easily walk to the ferry if you are staying downtown. Please note: If you are staying on Peaks Island and choose to rent a car the cost is around $60-80 to bring a car over on the ferry!
