It was a lovely evening at the Hotel Encanto. The lights dimmed and the band started to play a slow country two-step. Jordan cast furtive glances in Sally's direction... We can't say exactly what spurred Jordan in to closing the distance between them but it's likely it wasn't the country music genre. He thinks it was a moth to the flame scenario. *singe* He offered his imperceptibly shaking hand, which she took with cautious optimism. You see, dear reader, she had held a small but sturdy torch for this mysterious man who lived 3 hours from her. They danced, as a lonely janitor would dance with his pulchritudinous mop in a forgotten hallway. Both searching for the calm and serenity a "seaworthy" 'ship could provide . . .
The day had been perfect, but the night was more so. The nachos had been eaten, the telescope played with, and the scotch sipped. There were conspicuous candles on the back porch and the soft strumming of Jordan's Taylor guitar could be heard rolling gently out and away into the night. As he played well known and beloved songs, Sally and her parents sang along. The night could have continued blissfully twirling on that lovely status quo, but Jordan had other plans. At a word, the code word, things moved into action. (You see, dear reader, this code word was also the name of one of Sally and Jordan's favorite songs by the Velvet Underground, the name being "Pale Blue Eyes") Sally suddenly found herself singing along with Jordan to that very song. Only, this time she quickly realized his words and melody became different after the first few phrases. She sat there, bewitched and bewildered as she heard him sing about things coming deep from within his heart. The song ended with the words, "Sally, will you be my wife?". Stunned, she managed to ascertain that Jordan was bending to his knee. He asked, "Sally Renae Donoghue, will you marry me?" ...... Again, we must note Sally was quite transfixed and astounded at the whole situation. It is natural then to understand why all she managed to say at first was an empathetic, and wholehearted "YEEAAahh". . . She scored two rings out of this proposal. The first, original ring was a joint effort between Jordan and Sally's father. Jordan did not want to buy a ring without Sally's input (good call as it turns out Sally is a *little* particular about rings heh). The two of them stole away to the shed looking for something to create a ring with. They found very fine copper wire and fashioned it into a beautiful and unique twisted ring. On the final day of the trip, Jordan and Sally decided to use their last fleeting hours before her plane ride back to look at rings. Remarkably, they found just the one - an hour before her flight.
