FAQs

Question

Is there a registry?

Answer

We won’t be having a traditional registry. Your presence in Venice and the effort it takes to celebrate with us are truly more than enough.

Question

When should I book my flights?

Answer

For international travel, many guests find the best balance of availability and pricing when booking three to five months before departure. For a September wedding, this typically means booking sometime between April and June. That said, prices can vary by departure city, and guests should book whenever they feel comfortable with their travel plans. Venice is also easily reached by train from other major Italian cities, which can offer additional flexibility when planning flights if you are planning to visit other places or European countries

Question

When should I book my accomodation?

Answer

We recommend booking accommodations as early as possible, especially for September in Venice, which remains a popular travel period. Many guests find it helpful to reserve a cancellable or flexible rate early on, which allows you to secure availability now and adjust plans later if needed. This approach offers peace of mind without committing too far in advance. As travel dates approach, you can always revisit your reservation if better options or rates become available. See the travel page for some hotel listings close to the venue.

Question

WHAT IS THE TIPPING CULTURE IN ITALY?

Answer

Tipping in Italy is appreciated but never expected, and very different from North America. In restaurants, rounding up the bill or leaving a few euros is plenty — there is no pressure to tip 15 to 20 percent. Many Italians do not tip at all. If a service charge (coperto) is already included on your bill - which usually is, no additional tip is needed. For gondoliers, €5 to €10 is a kind gesture if they made the ride special. For taxi or water taxi drivers, rounding up to the nearest euro is sufficient. The most important thing: never feel obligated, and never feel rude for not tipping.

Question

IS THERE A CITY TAX IN VENICE?

Answer

Yes. Venice charges a tourist access fee called the contributo di accesso, which applies to day visitors entering the historic center. However, guests staying overnight in Venice are exempt from the day visitor fee and instead pay a small accommodation tax (tassa di soggiorno) directly through their hotel — typically €3 to €5 per person per night depending on the hotel category. This will be added to your hotel bill automatically. No action is required on your part beyond budgeting for it.

Question

PAYMENTS

Answer

Italy uses the euro. Credit cards are widely accepted in hotels and restaurants, but smaller shops, markets, and the gondola are cash only. It is worth having €50 to €100 in cash on hand at all times in Venice.
