Yellow just recently opened in Union Market. It's an amazing cafe with both a daytime menu and an evening kabob menu. The chef/owner (Chef Mike) is a friend of a friend and we love visiting both the Union Market and Georgetown locations! Hot tip: try the falafel -- it's the best I've ever had!
Yellow in Georgetown is one of our favorite repeat restaurants in DC. It's an amazing cafe with both a daytime menu and an evening (not)pizza menu. The chef/owner (Chef Mike) is a friend of a friend and we love visiting both the Union Market and Georgetown locations! Hot tip: go for dinner with a group, get cocktails, and eat everything on the menu!
Cielo Rojo has an amazing brunch - we went during DC Pride last summer and fell in love with the food and ambiance. Also, it doesn't hurt that it's located in Takoma Park, a beautiful neighborhood on the border between Maryland and DC. Hot tip: though this isn't a vegan-only restaurant, they have some of the best vegan food I've had in the DC area (and LOTS of options)!
Z&Z is right down the street from where we live and I wish they were open 7 days a week. Z&Z is a family-owned cafe with za'atar & manoushe. Hot top: the Bizza is one of our faves and we highly recommend the Karak Chai (Sahar likes it hot, Chris likes it iced).
Bob's Shanghai handmakes all of their soup dumplings -- you can even watch them making them! They're the best soup dumplings we've ever had, and that includes all of the soup dumplings we consumed when we lived in New York. Hot tip: you have to get soup dumplings, of course, but we also love the (very spicy) cumin lamb and double cooked pork belly!
Shanghai Taste is our neighborhood Chinese restaurant -- no frills and amazing food. Their American Chinese food is delicious and so are their authentic Chinese dishes. Hot tip: Sahar is obsessed with their salty soy milk, a savory soy milk soup with yu tiao/Chinese donut and chili oil. You can't go wrong but their crispy eggplant is also one of our favorite dishes!
Gourmet Inspirations is hands down our favorite place to get dim sum in the DC area. Hot tip: To avoid crowds and a wait, go early and get first dibs on all of the carts rolling out of the kitchen, OR go late (once carts have stopped rolling around) and order dim sum off the menu!
