It all began at a talent competition benefit where I (Sage) was volunteering, and he (Rex) was competing. I was 16 and a high school junior, he was 18 and about to graduate. From the moment he stepped on stage, I was completely blown away. His guitar playing and singing were incredible, but it was his charm that truly stole the show (and my heart). The moment he opened his mouth to start singing "Lady May" by Tyler Childers (a song I hadn't known at the time) I immediately took a picture of him on stage and sent it to my friends, captioning it "Future Husband" (foreshadowing!!). We still have the picture to this day and show it to people as proof of my love-at-first-sight! I introduced myself to him after he was awarded second place, where I first spoke to him and met his family. Both he and I thought nothing of the interaction (I couldn't have imagined that we would meet again so soon), but the very next weekend we ran into each other at the local Food Bank fundraising event that was being held at the civic center in town. After approaching his family's table and making light conversation, he asked to add his number into my phone! Before long, we were messaging constantly, hanging out, talking about music and art and building a connection we never wanted to end. Since those early days, we’ve done so much together: graduated high school, started college, formed a local band, traveled out of state, seen our favorite music artists in concert, and celebrated our engagement. Now, we’re looking forward to forever! We are each other’s best friends and can’t wait to spend our lives together making music, traveling the world, and serving the Lord.
