The Proposal

07.08.23

We woke up that morning, in a tent, in the Rocky Mountains. Sadie woke up freezing, the fire died out overnight, but it was beautiful and the morning sun warmed us as we got ready. We were about 2/3 of the way to our destination, Gore Creek Lake. As we started our ascent, the views got more and more beautiful. Finally, we came upon the beautiful lake and it surrounded by snow capped mountains. The lake was perfectly crystal clear and unreal to the eye. We soaked up the view and the sun as we ate our lunch. Alvin started to speak about love and life, and knelt down, asking if I would spend the rest of my life with him. It was the easiest yes I've ever said. Not even five minutes after, seven snow-white mountain goats came down from the hillside. We were next to the shore, and three of them came almost right up to us to investigate. After some time admiring them, we heading back down the trail to find camp for that night.

October 2022

Last October, we decided to go to Six Flags for the Halloween celebration. Sadie had never been to a Six Flags, and I hadn't been to a real amusement park for the better part of a decade. Of course, Alvin picks the biggest, tallest and most frightening contraptions in the whole park and somehow convinces me it's fun. He was right. In years, I'd never felt more like myself. He knew I needed something to bring out my inner child, and I felt so safe and loved. Then, Alvin thinks it would be even more fun to try a spook house. The first one was tolerable, but the second half was definitely the better of the two. We somehow ended up separated from our group once we got inside the second half, and all the scare actors had the perfect setup to scare us without us seeing the people in front of us react. Sadie had quite the scare in the last corner, where an especially realistic skeleton costume chases you, that when she burst out of the door, us and the actors couldn't stop laughing. We watched the sun set over the city, at the top of the high tower in the park. It feels like yesterday and ten years ago all at the same time.
