It was late spring in 2021, both Sadie and Tucker were happily living the single life but they were open to meeting new people since they had both been single for a while. Like most people these days, Hinge was their go to app to meet new people. You can like or comment on a predetermined prompt and based on the what one person says, the other can accept the invitation to start a chat. Tucker said some cheesy line about how gorgeous her piercing blue eyes were, not exactly original but the timing was perfect! Sadie connected and they shared several messages over the next week or so, getting to know each other on a high level. Out of no where, Sadie stopped responding and the conversations ended - such is life in the dating app world. A couple days later after going to a Giants day game, Tucker met up with a buddy for a beer at Lowbrau in midtown. His buddy pointed out, "That girl just looked you up and down, go talk to her and I'll get your drink." Tucker walked up to her and politely asked her and her friend to join them at our table and just hang out. Little did Tucker know, he had just walked up to Sadie who recognized him right away from his Hinge profile. After a few minutes of chatting with Sadie's friend, Tucker notices that Sadie is pretty quiet and on her phone - pretty unusual for a chatty bar setting. Suddenly she extends her arm across the table, phone in hand with his picture pulled up. "Is this you?!" said Sadie. Tucker's face went flush red, caught off guard and unsure but recognizing the picture was from his profile, he just acknowledged it. AND THAT is how they actually met in person for the first time. Sadie went on to explain that she had so many matches that she couln't keep up and it was a bit overwhelming so she just deleted the app since it was her roommates idea anyways and that she prefers to meet people in person. After a drink or two and a little charm, Sadie shared her phone number with Tucker and they texted for several weeks before she finally agreed to let Tucker take her out on their first date. On Thursday August 12th, 2021 Sadie and Tucker went to Saigon Alley for dinner and drinks and the connection they shared from the night they first met and from the weeks of texting was confirmed. The electricity in the air was radiating off them both. However, as the night was nearing its end, Tucker still decided to bring in the closer. Doug needed a walk around the neighborhood before Sadie could head home - Doug may have stolen the first kiss but as the saying goes... the rest is history!
As I am sure everyone remembers, winter of 2023 lasted well into the spring time. In late January, Tucker began saving and planning the engagement for May 20th but with the constant storms burying the Sierra Nevada mountains where he hoped to pop the question, Tucker was forced to bump the date back a couple weeks. This allowed the anticipation and excitement to build. How do you keep such a big secret from the one person you want to share everything with? Tucker called Sadie's siblings Gretchen and Cody as well as Sadie's 'first love' her nephew Liam, and asked them all for their support in asking her to marry him. With a resounding yes from all three the plan began to take shape. Rewind to June of 2022, Sadie took Tucker to her favorite hike up near Soda Springs. It was a warm sunny day, Doug was loving life and the hike culminates with a swing hanging under a tree that launches you out over a canyon and makes you feel like you are flying high above mountains like a bird. Tucker knew this was a special place and that one day he would propose to Sadie here. It is not very well known and provides a quiet and peaceful place to relax. Sadie made Tucker promise not to tell anyone the name or how to get to the hike so that it would remain relatively unknown and their special place. Fast forward back to the week before he was going to propose in June 2023. The forecast calls for rain and snow up in Soda Springs, Tucker is scrambling to find a plan B but is insistent on taking Sadie to their favorite hike that upcoming Sunday, it was here that Sadie started to think it might be the day she had been so patiently waiting for. As the day approached, there would be about a 4 hour window of blue skies so he decided to stick to the plan. On the Friday before, Tucker met with his good friend, Mario, and broke his promise by giving directions to the hike so he could snap some photo's to capture the moment. Sunday morning arrived, with Tucker and Sadie just hoping the weather would hold out, Tucker subtly checked in with Mario to make sure he got a good head start so he could capture the surprise. Sadie, Doug, and Tucker began the hike - there was still snow on the ground and the air was brisk but you could feel the excitement and anticipation continuing to build. Tucker noticed some bear and other animal tracks in the snow that looked pretty fresh but didn't say anything to Sadie, in case it would deter her from continuing on. About halfway up the mountain, Doug stopped in his tracks and back pedaled almost as if in fear. Just ahead was a clearing, likely an animal crossing path, you could clearly see the bear tracts and some blood in the snow that likely wasn't more than an hour old. Trusting Doug's instincts, Sadie and Tucker took a few steps back to assess the situation. Tucker told Sadie about the tracks he had seen in the snow for the last mile or so. Tucker let out a long, loud yell and after hearing nothing in return, they decided to continue forward. As Sadie and Tucker approach the top of the hike, they see the swing and realize they have the mountain all to themselves, the view overlooking the large gorge and the dark storm clouds swirling in the distance was a magnificent view. Sadie took her turn on the swing first giving Tucker time to set up his phone for a quick video and dig the ring out of the bottom of his pack. Sadie got off the swing and Tucker pulled her aside and dropped to a knee. "With you by my side the whole world shines brighter, I love you. Will you marry me?" Mario pops out of the bushes snapping tons of photos, dressed in all black looking like a bear! Sadie is startled at first then starts laughing and says yes! The stress and anticipation melts away from Tucker, in the distance the storm rumbles thunder and flashes lightening as if it were a round of applause. They spend a little time laughing and chatting, and take turns on the swing, symbolic of swinging into the next phase of life together.
