How We Met

A Workaholics' Love Story

Missy and Matt met at work **shocker**. Matt was working for Okolona Fire Department while Missy was working as an Exercise Physiologist, contracted out to the Fire Department. After about a year of busting Matt's butt in training, Missy was leaving to go to another job site when Matt stopped to ask her out. She was already in a relationship at the time, so she declined, and they agreed to remain friends. A few months later, her contract ended and they went their separate ways. In April 2015, the local GE warehouse caught fire, absorbing the time and energy of all the surrounding fire departments, including Okolona where Matt worked. This spelt of boredom encouraged Matt to join the world of Facebook. Luckily, they hadn't forgotten about each other and were able reconnect in February of 2016. Matt was finally able to convince Missy for that first date; rock climbing and coffee at Starbucks... the rest is history.

Building Our Dreams

The Story of Frostland

Soon after we got engaged (the very next day on our way home from our road trip out West), we decided that instead of using our money to have an expensive wedding, we would instead put that money toward a dream of building a homestead. We created our list of needs for the "perfect" new home to call ours (with sometimes conflicting priorities): -Outside the city, but still close to civilization -A separate building to use as a gym -Room for a pasture and barn to allow for a small animal rescue **fingers crossed** -No neighborhood or restrictions of land use (don't get Matt started about HOA's!) -An oversized garage to allow for a Jeep, a truck, Missy's soccer mom vehicle, and ALL the tools a person could need, want, create... -Room to build a shooting range After a year of searching in 6 different counties around the Louisville area, and coming up empty, we came to the realization that building was the only option. About a month after this decision, we looked at an untamed but beautiful 7 acre lot in Shelby County. After the first visit to the property, Matt compared the land to Missy's childhood home, Frostland, which he jokingly called "The Estate." This small acreage seemed to be the perfect place to blend the two very different upbringings that shared one distinct focus: family. We closed on our dream lot the end of June 2020 and have tirelessly been working to get it "wedding ready," which is a tall order for a property that's never had an address! Friends and family have come to lend a hand and we have already made a lot of progress taming the overgrown lot. We hope to have our first building built in time for the wedding, but are prepared to have reception tents if needed. There's a lot of work ahead, but we are enjoying the opportunity to create something we've dreamed up together. With a namesake from the family-centered gathering place of Missy's childhood, we look forward to creating wonderful memories with all who gather together at the new Frostland.
