Altitude Illness
Leadville sits at 10,200 feet above sea level and that, my friends, can be a doozy on the ol' body. The most common symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness are "those similar of an alcohol hangover" including headache, loss of appetite, fatigue and nausea. Onset of symptoms usually occurs 2-12 hours after arrival at higher elevation, often during or after the first night. Sleeping at altitude may also be challenging because our breathing patterns slow during sleep which reduces the oxygen taken in and thus exacerbates the effects of altitude. The takeaways: 1) Come up to altitude slowly. Spend a night in Denver or the front range if you're coming from out of state. 2) Stay hydrated! Drink plenty of our fresh mountain water. It's good and good for you! 3) Be cautious with your alcohol intake! It will hit you harder and faster up here, watch out! It also exacerbates the symptoms of altitude sickness. Not helpful. 4) If you know you have trouble with altitude or if you are unable to slow your ascent/arrival at altitude the CDC suggests that you consider using acetazolamide as a prophylaxis. Acetazolamide requires a prescription from your doctor so you'll want to plan ahead if you go this route. The good news: Symptoms subside within hours of descending to lower altitudes, sometimes very little distance makes a big difference in how you feel. If you are concerned about your health at 10,000ft consider staying the night in Vail or Summit valleys for a lower night's sleep.

Camping
While there are loads of amazing camp spots around us all of the supported (bathrooms), reservation based areas close the weekend before our wedding. If you want to camp for our event we recommend checking in with the National Forest Service. They can give you info on dispersed camp areas that might suite you. If you happen to talk to Kate tell her you're my friend and she'll be extra nice to you. You're also welcome to reach out to us for ideas of where to go if this is your jam.
