It all started in December of 2015, at a wedding celebration in Brooklyn, NY. Sabrina’s father, Lionel Louis, was celebrating his second marriage, and the guest list happened to include the perfect ingredient for a love story neither bride nor groom saw coming. Among the guests was Jemina James, a special invitee of the bride, and with her, she brought her son, Curdel. That same evening, Sabrina was called up to sing for her father's special moment, completely unaware that her future husband was sitting in the crowd, captivated by her voice. Curdel, 16 at the time, mustered the courage to ask Sabrina for a dance after her performance. She was hesitant at first, questioning, “who was this teenage boy asking her to dance at her dad’s wedding?”, not convinced he was actually 16. Sabrina did what any skeptical 15 year old woman would do… she asked to see ID! Lacking ID, Curdel turned to his mother, Jemina, to vouch for him. She confirmed his age, and with that, Curdel earned his dance. Later that evening, Curdel asked Sabrina if they could see each other again. Sabrina, intrigued, said “Sure.” But with her phone completely out of battery, they had a small obstacle. Curdel took her number instead and said, “I’ll text you, but call me when you get the chance.” That night, Sabrina stayed the night at her cousin’s house and did something she had never done so fast…charged her phone. There was something about Curdel she couldn’t quite explain, but it felt special. As soon as her phone powered on, she called him, and they talked for hours. During that call, full of laughter and youthful curiosity, they began calling each other “future bae.” Then Curdel said something that changed everything: “If you’re my future bae, and everything we’re doing right now is technically a future of the past, why not make you my bae right now?” It was that sweet, spontaneous, completely original pick-up line, not found on Google, that marked the official beginning of Sabrina and Curdel’s love story. From a chance meeting at a wedding reception, at just 15 and 16 years old… To growing up together, loving each other through the years… To getting married. A story written by fate, and sealed with a dance.
