The Zona Colonial is the historic central neighborhood of Santo Domingo, the DR capital, and the oldest permanent European settlement of the Americas. It’s a beautiful area where you can walk around, shop, eat, drink and visit historic sights.

The closest proper beach is Boca Chica. Next up is Juan Dolio, which is touristy and much cleaner. If you want the ultimate beach, you’ll have to go a bit further out to Punta Cana or Playa Rincon in Samana.
