Why's all the rum gone?

May 17th, 2022

Hello family and Friends. It is with a one part sadness, one part frustration, and one part relief that we have come to the decision to call off the wedding. No, there is no trouble in paradise, it is just that paradise is a broken down old tourist island that still has drains backed up, beaches with chiggers and ticks, and somebody (we are a team here, so no finger pointing)... somebody drank all the rum.. the rum is gone. Gone be the rum. All kidding aside, when we set out to do this 3 yrs ago there were various reasons it was a amazing idea. I wanted to set a good example for Cecilia. I wanted to let Kristy know I had her back, and could make a career move without worry about the financial lapse. I wanted a big party where I sailed away on Pequod in a poetic ending/ beginning of phases. Kristy wanted to help me do all of that, and I think she liked me. Might still, IDK. But that was a world before. Now Cecilia isn't even talking to me, let alone show up at the wedding. Kristy and I could just get the paperwork done and have the insurance and her right to keep the business if I go get lost sailing around the world and don't actually find my way back for 100 years. Then there is the party. One of the team members is not at all comfortable with being the center of attention and it made anxiety only grow to have the thing kicked down the road for 3 years. (I know a lot of you are leaping to the assumption it is me. You know how I hate sticking out in a crowd. But I am not taking the blame or laying the blame. We are a well conditioned “crew” over here.) Even the beloved Pequod is taking a new family on great adventures and she has not been replaced. So sailing off into the sunset wasn't possible. A 14' dinghy isn't quite the same thing. As time slipped and the requirements to set up all the components of a wedding were not completed, everybody's anxiety has risen through the roof. This past weekend is our last without guests staying at the Hibiscus House. We don't expect/ hope that lets up until at least late October. I used to have reliable help with dad, and he used to be active and more cognitive. Now He needs me there every 8 hours at the very least. He is belligerent, gross, and constantly in need of some sort of forced manipulation. Most of the time I have to do things that if I saw other people doing it, would probably consider it abuse. So we have to jettison this idea to save our collective sanity. I hope you all understand. We are sorry. I can still come to your house and make Paprikash if you need me to. If you bought gifts or something you can take them back.... Unless it is rum. You should still give up the rum. We an make up a good reason after we have had a few slugs. Thank you for your continued understanding.
