While we recommend wandering in the park and scrambling on rocks off the trails, here are also some hiking & driving trails that we recommend. Hiking/Climbing: • Barker Dam Trail (1 mile loop) – only worth it if the dam is filled with water! • Arch Rock Nature Trail (With Heart Rock) – see some unique rock formations on this trail. • Wall Street Mill (2 miles out and back - about 1 hour) • Rattlesnake Canyon – if you're looking to just climb and scramble on some rocks. • Hall of Horrors (.6 miles) – lots of rocks to scramble and climb through on this trail. Driving: • Geology Tour Road (must have 4WD!) – A well-maintained loop to learn about the park's natural history.
Originally built in 1946 as a living movie set for Wild West movies which was frequented with actors such as Gene Autry and Roy Rogers, who were also original investors. Nowadays, it has been kept alive with a bar (The Red Dog Saloon), Restaurant (Pappy & Harriets), and shops in the original buildings facades.
An outdoor art museum by Noah Purifoy with sculptures made out of entirely found objects. This is one of the first places Jasper took Ryley to in the desert. It is free and open to the public everyday.
To experience an other worldly body experience, we highly recommend booking a sound bath at the Integretron. These are 40 minute sonic healing sessions where they play 22 quartz crystal singing bowls. The shows are held live in a geodesic dome that was originally built in the 50's for space/time travel. We advise that you book this months early as it sells out quickly. $55 per person.
Great coffee for your mornings, and equally as good cocktails anytime after. A great place to watch the sunset drinking a martini.
House-made Pastries & Coffee in the morning. Sandwiches & Flatbreads in the afternoon. All bread is Sourdough and made in house.
Tacos all day, queso, cocktails, and beer. What more can you ask for? Built in 1946, the Red Dog Saloon was not only a backdrop to dozens of major westerns, but it was the cornerstone of the Pioneertown community. In 2020, the Red Dog was restored and reopened to the public. The menu features tacos, queso and draft cocktails for quick, casual dining experience in the heart of the Pioneertown film set.
A must hit lunch spot (not open for dinner). Written as one of Eater's Essential California restaurants.
A favorite lunch & dinner spot for the vibes. Serves great BBQ and bar food. Located right next to the Pioneertown Motel. Check their schedule for live music.
Fun retro bar and eatery by the same people who do The Red Dog (and Found Oyster & Queen Street in LA)
