How We Met

High School Sweethearts or Something Like That

Spanish is considered a love language, but, in 2008, when Ryan and Kaitlyn sat diagonally from each other in their Sophomore world language class, love was not on either of their minds. How romantic, right? They would be introduced by a mutual friend in the class and go on to have Chemistry, Algebra II, and Graphic Design together. It wasn't until their senior year, that Kaitlyn would feel like everyone knew something she didn't, and that is mostly because Ryan had convinced all her friends, and even some of their family, to start every conversation with the saying, "I know something you don't know." Ryan would finally let Kaitlyn in on the big secret in February that year, by asking her to be his girlfriend, before bringing her to the prom and kissing her on the field at graduation. Over a decade later, and the rest is history.

Magical Proposal

*Warning* Cheesy Disney Story To Follow

In true Ryan fashion, the whole proposal was a big secret, only 4 people knew before it happened, and one of those people was Ryan. While staying in Florida for his Cousin Kayla's cheerleading competition, they decided to go to Disney World for the day with their cousins, Bree and Dave. Ryan told Kaitlyn he would carry their backpack around the park. Unbeknownst to her, her engagement ring was hidden inside. They would visit both Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom that day. Though there would be countless photo ops in front of the many attractions, and a full firework show, Ryan did not decide to get down on one knee until the very end of the night. (No really the park was even playing it's please leave music by then). As the group was making their way toward the exit, Ryan asked if anyone wanted one last picture in front of Cinderella's castle. That should have been the first hint. He then asked his cousin Bree to take a picture, quickly giving her a glimpse of the ring, before Kaitlyn could notice. A slightly nervous Bree asked, "Flash or no flash?" When Kaitlyn felt Ryan pull away from their pose and bend down, the first thing that came out of her mouth was, "You're not doing this right now," before she happily agreed to marry him. And to think only a few hours before, while watching another couple get engaged, she had made a snide sarcastic comment...oops!
